Gillian Thompson graduated from the University of Toronto in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 2003 she completed a Master of Nursing/ Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (Paediatric) Program from the University of Toronto. Gillian has been working as a Nurse Practitioner in the Young Families Program in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children since January 2003, becoming Team Lead in 2014. Gillian has published several peer-reviewed articles and guidelines on adolescent parenting and is frequently invited to speak at conferences, locally, nationally and internationally. She received a clinical appointment with the University of Toronto, Faculty of Nursing as an Adjunct Lecturer in 2004 and has been active with interprofessional students in the clinical and classroom settings integrating interests including infant mental health, adolescent mental health, general pediatrics, and the social determinants of health. She is an advocate and supporter of Social Pediatrics, and a contributor for the integration of a collaborative care and education model within hospital and community and settings. Most recently, Gillian is providing leadership to a provincial network of young parent resource agencies for the integration of developmental, health and mental health services to adolescent led families facing adversity.
